An evening of modern chamber music, performed by a quartet of visiting musicians from Wesleyan University.

Composer Anthony Braxton is the recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship (popularly known as the "genius grant"). His many achievements include the very first full-length solo saxophone recording (1968's "For Alto"). Drawing on the traditions of jazz, classical, and the avant-garde, he creates music of "enormous sophistication and passion...unlike anything else that had come before it" (All Music Guide).

A selection of pieces from Braxton's recent series "Falling River Musics" will be performed by the quartet. Composer Brian Parks will introduce the performance, provide background on Braxton's music, and show the unusual "graphic score" from which the performers will play.
